| A lot has happened in the last week and I'm barely catching up sifting
through all the shots I made. There's the casual snapshot of my cat Trent, two concerts, the
opening of Leuven's
skatepark and a night in The Joker.
If you stumbled upon this site via the skatepark photo on drieduizend today, I
apologise for not having the rest up yet. I'll get to them soon enough. Check out the photos via the
flickr link top left. Keep an
eye out for
updates and you'll see 'em in a few days (subscribing to the rss feed is the easiest way of doing
this). Next up a big congrats to my girlfriend from way way back - she used to call herself Haras, insiders will know who she is - on becoming a mother last week. Looks like it's a gorgeous little girl, niftly called Anaboo. Now let's all hope she grows up with spikey hair and tattoos and drives her mother a little more towards fullblown insanity. Or would she be proud of the spikey hair ? Maybe let's just wish the little one grows up and becomes a model like her grandma ... perhaps that would annoy her mother more ? Best of luck ladies ! |

| Last week the boys
in Redmond released the final version of Internet Explorer 7. After years of virtually no development, internet-users
have something new. Obviously you've always had the chance to use other browsers. Practically all
platforms have Firefox and there's the
outsider Opera and Mac users have their
Safari. There's even
more but those who use 'em will know which ones. Personally I use Windows exclusively. Not because I have to, or don't want to use anything else, but because it fits my needs well enough. Never had gigantic problems with either Windows 3.11, 95, 98, 98se, Me, 2000 or XP. I make a backup from time to time, I re-install maybe yearly and never had a big crash that was software related. I did have a harddisk crash on me twice (damn you Maxtor !). I used Apple back in the day and never really found it so much better or faster to bother to switch. I used Linux and bored myself to death with all the kernel compiling and mounting every time I wanted to do something. That may be all fixed now, but I no longer care. Just use every platform where it's at his best. Windows for the masses at home (installs quick and painless, does nearly anything and can patch itself), Linux for cheap servers (nothing is cheaper to host your site on than linux-apache-mysql combo, just don't expect too much from that thing they call a database) and Unix is heavenly for big robust systems. Wanna be different ? Get a Mac. But don't complain that you have to buy all your software (again) and are paying more for the same. Pick what you like and use it. And leave others alone. Preach to yourself. Don't try to convert others. They'll just call you a mac-fanboy or a pinguinfucker. Stupid ranting from one side to another always makes me yawn - and I have to admit I sometimes like to stir things up a little by leaving a comment which will probably shake things up, just to see what the blinded sheep on both sides will say - and that's why gestures like this one make me smile. After shipping IE7, the guys in Redmond wanted to congratulate the people working on FF 2.0 with a cake when they shipped their own new version. A lot sweeter than throwing mud from side to side. On a sidenote : I don't use Firefox. I tested it a few times and always found it slower than IE6. I don't have the patience for it. And I don't want to search half a day for tips and tricks making it go faster. It should be fast enough after installing it. And I'm not the only one. I know others who ditched it after finding it too slow. Nope, gimme IE6 or Opera 8. But seeing I'll be testing IE7 and Opera 9 later on, I might as well add FF2 to that list. Maybe I'll like it more now. Then again, just use what you want to use and feel good with. You won't see a "get firefox" button here. |

| What would happen if you combine one of the best songs in the world with
one of the campiest scifi shows ? Throw in some sexual innuendo, add the obvious sixties overacting
and have it all edited by some talented video-guys. |

| This man is my hero. It's a response to the signing by the moron in charge (aka the drunk meat puppet) of the Military Commissions Act. Which in essence diminishes the one true instrument every citizen has (or had) against unlawful imprisonment : habeas corpus. Seems like the war pigs are working overtime ... |

| And I always thought that less cable clutter was one of the main selling points every Mac fanboy throws in your face when discussing pro's and con's of Apple versus other computers. According to this picture of Hawk's desk, there are a truckload of wires and cables. Doesn't seem all that different at all. Maybe they just think it's different. |

| Election day. Cities and provinces. Not national. As it was a sunny day
I walked the block and a half to the sportscenter where I had to vote. Expecting a line of people
waiting their turn I was pleasantly surprised to see I could step right into a booth. Comparing
the first two or three elections I had to attend using paper and a red pencil, and the last
computerised two (or three ? can't remember), it looks like I always had to wait a lot longer
when using paper and pencil. Aren't computers nifty ? Anyway, in order to do something useful with my vote I decided to vote for all the women on the list I was voting for. Give 'em all a little push and maybe later on see what's supposed to be different about more women in politics. I understand the idea behind it, but the necessity to have a minimal amount of women on a list seems silly. That way you risk promoting women who aren't fully interested or even worse ... not capable. I know it's a worst case scenario, but there's something called the simpson paradox that always has me worried when certain groups of people get "upped" in favor of others. Sometimes it works, sometimes it backfires. |

| The headache is either due to a sinus-infection or a strained eye-nerve. It could be a sinus-infection but the weird thing is that only the right sinus is blocked. Still bought some eucalyptus-solution to inhale the fumes. That usually helps when your nose is blocked. The headache is a result of the pressure in the sinuscavity. And the buildup can also explain extra pressure on the eye-nerve. That's the positive scenario. Worst case I should have my eyes checked, maybe get new glasses and cut down on my "staring at a computerscreen" time. Don't know. We'll see in a few days ... |

| Sporting the headache of the century. For me at least. I'm going through day three of feeling like needles are being stabbed in my head, just behind and above my eyes. The usual Dafalgan isn't helping. If this is the beginning of reoccurring migraine-attacks I'm going to scream. Silently. Really screaming would hurt my head too much. |
