Editorial - 30 November 2005
When I'm writing this it's not really the 30th of November anymore, but since I seem to be taking my hiatus from this site, my life and mind a little later than expected, I need to go back and add some stuff closer to the real happening date. There will be no weekreview at all, just a short overview of the last concert where I was taking photographs. They came out much better than the last time thanks to lenses (50mm and 80-200mm - suited better for dark lit rooms) I could borrow from Pietel (muchos thankos by the way).

The Heideroosjes are a dutch punkband signed on the worldknown Epitaph label. No beginner clowns. And with their sound close to that of the infamous Ramones, they decided to go ahead with a series of tribute concerts under the combined name "Ramroosjes". Being a fan of The Ramones, and lucky enough to have seen them at least once while they were still alive and well, I didn't want to miss this. If it even came close to one fifth of the energy I felt during that Ramones gig I'd feel alive again, for the first time since days long gone. I wanted that. I needed to feel that.
Without treading into details I can honestly say I felt good. I got to do an old style pogo with my nephew (who was with me, front row center, on The Ramones gig as well), I took some good shots and had a hell of a time during and afterwards. Thanks to all who were around. You know who you are.

The long weekend started beautiful with one of the best and longest concerts I've ever seen : The Posies in an old church in Mechelen. They played a small stage, we were in the front rows and the sounds was good. After playing for over an hour and a half they returned for some more songs and when everyone thought we'd seen it all (the lights went on briefly), they returned a second time. Stopping past midnight after what looks to be two hours and a half. And while the cleaning crew started work they all walked in the venue, sat on stage and drank some beers with the fans. Ken was quickly chatted up by some pierced TMF-chick while the drummer looked for his digital videocamera he lent to some guy in the audience. Jon Auer manned the small booth where you could buy their cds, t-shirts and posters. I gotta say that was one of the coolest things to do : sell your stuff yourself, taking time to talk a bit with the fans. They even remembered the concert in Tongeren lotsa years back and the final gig during Marktrock in Leuven.
Small downpoint : I didn't bring my camera as I was expecting tighter security and no camera's allowed. After all, this wasn't "Het Depot" and the settlement we have with them. And as I didn't want to leave my camera with the coat-guy I left it at home. If I had known I was going to be front stage again in such a relaxed atmosphere ... just one more bad decision I guess.
Song of the week : -----
Oldie of the week : -----
Last seen movie : "Say It Isn't So" : comments are being written.
"Final Destination 2" : comments are being written.
"Intolerable Cruelty" : comments are being written.
Doing this week : Try to relax and breath again.

Inbetween purgatory and hell there's usually nothing much to do, but when you meet some people who are setting up a photo-group about your hometown, there's fun to be had. Quickly gaining speed, the drieduizend collective are now also official partners of the city of Leuven, the new concertvenue Het Depot and are getting some funding from the SAM project. Amongst other things this means we are allowed to go to all concerts in Het Depot and take pictures from the front row and sometimes even go backstage - all depends on who's playing. Yesterday was my first time - together with .Marsman - during the gigs of Cream & Spices and Millionaire.
Arriving early I had no trouble whatsoever getting in with my backpack filled with the D70, my gear and some extra stuff. Walking around on the first rows everyone was kind enough to give me some room when needed. It didn't take me long to spot fellow photographer .Marsman as he was the other one pointing a big lens towards the stage. Taking pictures in strange lighting of moving people while standing in a crowd wasn't as easy, so I fucked up a lot of pictures, but here's some who turned out sorta ok.

Main act Millionaire was even harder to photograph as they immediately let the smokemachines rip and turned the stage into a gaschamber the krauts would've liked. Couple that with bright white lights and some strobes in the background and most times all you could see where their outlines and blurry movements. I didn't even try to photograph those. Whenever the white lights where out I took some shots and these two turned out ok. I'll practice more in the future. And get a lens that can drop to 2.8 instead of stopping at 3.5 ...

Song of the week : "Summer Pass Me By" Millionaire
Oldie of the week : "Haunting Me" Stabbing Westward
Last seen movie : Still only watching television from time to time. No movies.
Doing this week : Continue the "move from hell" ...
