It'll be a slow week regarding updates. No music, no movies ... good news is
I'm really catching up on old reviews. Browse back a bit and start looking.

Doing this week : Getting ready for warmer and warmer temperatures. We'll be hitting 30 degrees
Celsius in no time.

Today's the first birthday of my niece Lorn. We had a little party yesterday with two other one-year olds (twins) and
all the grandparents. Lots of people and new toys ... obviously a little too much excitement for all
the little buggers. My sister had to get up at least three times during the following night. Logically
when you have a little kid dreaming of a new teddybear, a walking buggy and new clothes.
Song of the week : "C'mon C'mon" The Von Bondies
Oldie of the week : "Be My Number Two" Joe Jackson
Last seen movie : "Fahrenheit 9/11" : If only half of what's said here is even half true,
a big part of the american government and it's families should be jailed in Guantanamo Bay for
terrorist activities. Obviously filmed with one single purpose (damage Bush's reputation), but
revealing nonetheless. The guy is an idiot with sinister people surrounding him and guiding him
and the american people into more and more trouble for their own benefit. The war's not about oil,
but about power in the middle-east and the money that power brings.
Due to the single-mindedness of the material, it's not as good as "Bowling For Columbine", but it
has a bigger impact on the viwer. Several people in the room were appaled at times, or even booing
at the screen. Probably doubtful that this will change a lot of americans views on politics and
their voting, but if it changes just a few undecisive votes, it may be enough. Dubya didn't win
last time either did he ?
"The Thing" : Still one of the scariest horror- and suspense thrillers ever made. Loosely based
on a fifties classic and the novella it's based on, director John Carpenter delivers his best work,
as does leading man Kurt Russel. Chilling, nailbiting and down right scary when the monster reveals
it's first look. Seen it as a kid and nearly puked, saw it again now and was still utterly disgusted
when the different shapes and sizes appear later on. Truly a classic masterpiece.
"To Catch A Thief" : Cary Grant's a retired jewelthief who gets into trouble when someone starts
mimicking his style. Evading the police he must try and find the copycat himself. Hitchcock drops
his usual suspense for this rather classic detectivestyle movie. He doesn't drop his fetish for
gorgeous, unatainable blonde women and films Grace Kelly from every possible angle which will make
her look good. Prince Rainier from Monaco (where the movie takes place) was rumoured to be on set
constantly winning Kelly's heart who quit the filmbusiness to become a princess.
Doing this week : A new roundtrip to the UK. Going up wednesday, coming back friday. I'm
missing part of our national holiday, the military parade and our worldfamous rain. We always get
rain in the middle of July on our national holiday. Would you really miss that ?

Another stroke of bad luck for the guy in charge in the US of Bush. Not only
did the republicans not get the required 67 votes to get the constitutional amendment to ban gay
marriages, but they also didn't get the required 60 votes to get to the next level with this thing
and - to top it all of - they even failed to convince at least half of the voters ... they lost 48
to 50. Guess there's some decency, democracy, freedom of speech and superiour thinking in the US
after all. Now all they have to do is get rid of that one term "president" (using the term loosely) in november.
Song of the week : "The Promise" The Cure
Oldie of the week : "Catch" The Cure
Last seen movie : "Kissing Jessica Stein" : Jessika had the dvd with her when she came for
dinner last friday. At first sight not something I'd buy myself, but I was wrong. Very funny, well
acted and written comedy revolving around relationships in New York. With a healthy dose of gay and
lesbian details thrown in for a more realistic feel. Sorta like a cross between "Sex And The City"
and "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". I'd pick it up if you see this laying around for a good price.
"Tron" : Classic Disney. A programmer (Jeff Bridges) is been cheated out of some of the games he
developed and is seeking evidence on the company's computer-system. Growing ever aware of this, the
system engulfs him into himself (creating breathtaking special effects for the early 80's) where he
must fight for survival in the same games he developped, aided by visualisations of some of his and
his friend's (Bruce Boxleitner) programs. The lightcycles, the flying buildings, the internal layout
of a computer ... it's all there. Best scifi for kids and parents besides Star Wars.
"The Italian Job" : the 2003 update of the classic comic caper from 1968. Luckily they choose not to
copy the original, but recreate it. What would happen if the original ended slightly different and
that was the beginning of this movie ? The filmmakers' answer to that questions is betrayal, revenge,
more carchases (the new BMW Mini One and Cooper versions) and a slick and stylish design. There are
some great inside jokes and some poking fun at the computer-industry. A well done remake.
Doing this week : I've been drawing buttons, menu-items and a background for most of the week.
Site at work needs some additional items. I like doing that.

With the Rock Werchter
festival behind me, I'm now back at work and maybe pissing of a few of my british co-workers. Seems
like a mail I wrote yesterday-evening cause quite a stir. I was getting tired of returning at work
twice a week with the FTP-access to the server failing on me again. I can log in, but can't do any
uploads - which has the same result as no login. There are other issues to (new files on the server
reverting back to the old ones a day later etc) and the head of IT got hold of that mail. He's going
to ask for an in depth investigation. Fine by me, good for me and others, but probably some overworked
guys in the UK aren't going to thank me for this. Sorry guys.
Song of the week : "Housewife" Daan
Oldie of the week : "Vamos" The Pixies
Last seen movie : "Innerspace" : Just seen it tonight. Slightly based upon the sixties special
effects movie "Fantastic Voyage", it tells the story of a testpilot (Dennis Quaid), miniaturised and
ready for injection into the bloodstream of a rabbit when thiefs burst in and the pilot gets injected
into a human (Martin Short) during the attempted escape of one of the scientists. Trying to get him out
while escaping the gang of thiefs ... you get the drill. Basic routine movie with some laughs, some great
sceneries and a slightly positive feeling in the end. Not a waste of time, but not that remarkable either.
Can be bought very cheaply on DVD by the way. Better than a rental.
Doing this week : Sleep, heal, rest.
darkman says sleep tight
