I ruined somebody's day today. I park my car in a lot in an alley hundred meters further down the street where I live and to my surprise there was a car parked half way in front of the garage door. This had happened once before when I got home in the evening. No biggie, you can park on the street, but when it happens in the morning when you wanna leave for work and it's already too late to take the one direct train ? That's something that seriously could piss you or me off. Strangely enough it didn't. I just called the cops, waited 5 minutes for someone to arrive and assess the situation (three tickets (parking in front of a garage, on a curb and blocking the road for emergency vehicles) besides the obvious towing-costs) and another 20 minutes later the car was gone. I even managed to get to work in time. How very mature of me. Oh well, moving on ...

Finishing off the dutch version of the new design for a partnership with KLM. A company that big has the right to be demanding, don't they ? And so they are. Colors, links, text, look and feel ... everything has to be set to certain standard, but look like it's our product. Given they have blue colors and we orange ... that wasn't easy.
Song of the week : -----
Oldie of the week : -----
Last seen movie : Recently I have rewatched the first Lord Of The Rings movie - after seeing it in the cinema two years ago and not quite liking or disliking it. This time I watched the extended dvd-version in two sessions. A disc per evening. Followed by the second movie - which I didn't even bother seeing in the cinema) in the extended version in two consecutive nights. I'm thinking of putting all three films in a longer review together between now and august when the third one comes out in the extended version.
Doing this week : Getting ready for a trip to the seaside this weekend. A well deserved break after the KLM redesign.

Seems today is the 40th birthday of the famous Nutella chocolate spread ! Children and grown-ups all over the world enjoy that on their thick slices of bread or cake, pancakes ... or like my brother in law who just eats a jar empty with a spoon. Oh, by the way, I made a link to the american site because the normal dotcom address reverts to the italian site and that language might be a problem for most of you guys and girls.
Song of the week : "Unbroken (hotel baby)" Monster Magnet
Oldie of the week : "Hey Jealousy" Gin Blossoms
Last seen movie : "Breakfast At Tiffany's" : comments are being written
"Thumb Wars" : Silly short movie based upon the original Star Wars trilogy played with ... euhm right, you guessed it : thumbs. From the "creative" mind of Steve "Ace Ventura" Oedekerk and not outstaying it's welcome thanks to a mere half an hour duration. Just enough to get some laughs and not too much to get bored with the gimmick. Surely worth viewing for the fans of the scifi genre ...
"That Touch Of Mink" : comments are being written
"The Big Sleep" : An amazing movie from the fourties starring Humphrey Bogart. Style, substance, a strong film noir feel and a few strong and dependable female actresses (not always the case in those days). Even after more than 60 years, this is one of the best films ever made in the detective-genre. Must see.
"Abre Los Ojos" : comments are being written
Doing this week : I found a lot of crappy action-, disaster-, bigbudget movies taped with the trusty VCR in a box. These will get their viewing as soon as possible - given the recent drop in "things on TV worth watching" that can't be that big of a deal.

Yesterday it was eight years ago since Ellen and I got together. I haven't mentioned that each year on this site because I don't have to write everything down here, do I ? As she asked me about it I thought it was worth mentioning some of the weird similarities between this week and the same week 8 years ago. I'll get into detail later ...

Did you get a visit from the easter-bunny too ? I did and luckily he wasn't as stressed out as BunBun usually is. Left some nifty chocolates for me.
Song of the week : -----
Oldie of the week : "I Alone" Live
Last seen movie : I can honestly say that I haven't been watching movies last week. Not that I didn't have the time, but I had a stockpile of old tv-shows on tape that were in dire need of a rerun and some new ones that had to be watched as soon as possible. I'm glad to say I got through 'em quite quick and easy ...
Doing this week : I'm definitely going to re-install my machine at work. A lot of crap keeps failing on me and I'm tired of using IE as an FTP-program. That's okay for a few times, but not for weeks in a row. Things ran smoothly at first, but last week a lot went belly-up.

I wanna give some credit to the lone(ly) webmaster of a soon to be defunct (?) company Megapool. Sunday-evening all employees got a letter stating that they didn't have to show up for work as all shops would remain closed due to financial problems. Somehow he must've had the honor to put the site and shop offline and even make new pages (online shortly after I took this screenshot) explaining what happened. Hang in there people.

As it's 10 years already since Kurt Cobain decided he had enough of faking, the ever growing fandom and constant stomach-aches, took a shotgun and blew his brains out, a lot of radiostations, newspapers and websites galore are remembering this event and the nineties as a whole. And why not ? Compared to the seventies and definitely to the eighties, the nineties had a lot more to offer, both culturally and socially. A lot of true music revolutions (grunge, the return of punk, techno, mainstream house, the big metal breaktrough ...), movies became bigger and worse, but sometimes better, the internet quickly gained control of big parts of our society ... it's definitely a decade to remember.
Song of the week : -----
Oldie of the week : "Smells Like Teen Spirit" Nirvana - for obvious reasons
Last seen movie : "The Story Of Ricky" : Gory japanse crap. Overlong fightscenes, tedious pacing, bad acting, writing and directing ... this has all the merits of a turd on the sidewalk. Too bad it doesn't even "become good because it's bad". It just stays bad.
"Clerks" : Bitterly funny black comedy, laughing with the stupidity of the average customer and his/her consumerculture spendinghabits and "listen to me slave" attitude towards storeworkers. All seen from the point of view from a grocerystore- and videostoreclerk who both don't want to be where they are (behind the counter) and who think up different schemes to annoy their clients, get out of the store and just try to get through another boring day. Debut from writer/director Kevin Smith who made a carreer of these kinds of films. Absolutely worth seeing a few times.
Doing this week : Nineties week on Studio Brussel ! My ears are glued to the radio, checking out the sounds of the second half of my youth, the 16+ part, which is usually the best part of anyone's youth. Girlfriends, dating, going out and parties, growing freedom, finishing high school and going to the university ... the best years of your life. I may be getting old, but you can trust me on that. Hell, you can trust me on a lot of issues thanks to my photographic and detailed memory !
