Well, I survived day three of Pukkelpop - not via stream, but live from deep within the mud. And as chance would have it, I wrote a small review about it. If you have some spare time, or don't want to work right now, go read it.
Song of the week : "In My Place" Coldplay
Oldie of the week : "Hey Man, Nice Shot" Filter
Last seen movie : "Bad Company" is a slightly above standard actionflick thanks to Anthony Hopkins and - in lesser extent - Chris Rock. A rather clichéd script, a mediocre director (even if he performs nice this time), some obvious idiocies (thugs shoot machine-guns, hit no one, CIA shoots guns, hit everybody) ... it's all there. But thanks to mr. Hopkins it's slightly different and above the usual standard for actionmovies. Purely for entertainment.
"Blues Brothers 2000" : I had seen this one many times before, but never on wallsize. Now I have and the music still rocks. Don't get fixated on the first one, give this one an honest chance. Don't compare them too much. The storyline may be a bit weaker, the music is divine.
Doing this week : Finalising the big move : the last furniture : bed and livingroomseats.

Day two of Pukkelpop didn't bring much interesting stuff, except for Vex Red maybe. Slightly worthy of following with one eye on the screen. The evening was probably way better with Ozark Henry, Junkie XL, Within Temptation, Korn, No Use For A Name and DJ Shadow. Didn't see any of those bands because I was packing the last (?) boxes and went to a movie instead. Tell ya more later.

I am both pleasantly surprised and utterly disgusted by the livestreams from Pukkelpop. Pleasantly surprised due to the quality and continuity. Nice fullscreen views are possible and I only experienced 2 hickups during the 3 hours I watched it in a corner of my screen at work. At home - viewing fullscreen - it played flawlessly for 4 hours straight.
Still, I'm disgusted. Belgacom has found yet another way of spreading false rumours. The streams are available in low and high quality. Low for normal modem-users and high for broadbanders. Logical but there's a catch. You get a 150 Kb stream for broadband unless you're using Belgacom's ADSL-technology. Then you get 450 Kb. Thus creating the image that cable-modems are inferiour and have to get lower quality. Which is utter nonsense. Cable-technology is capable of a continuous stream 6 times that of ADSL. A very low blow yet again from our former monopolists ... fuck 'em, we know better.
Anyway ... from what I have seen Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Breeders and A were the best. BRMC was very noisy with lots of fuzz and bass, including a lightshow The Cure would've liked. The Breeders were their usual sloppy self which made it nerve-chilling. Not that I've seen everything from these bands because I was moving boxes around in my new appartment at the time. And from A only three songs were shown but they sounded nice. Oh, Jimmy Eat World looked good during dinner too. The biggest disappointment was that nothing from Jane's Addiction was shown. Something I was looking forward too ...

Well, my cry out for more sun has been gloriously answered. Around five days with temperatures above 30 degrees. That's very big business for us here. Finally had the chance to work a little on my tan. Less white, more brown ...
Song of the week : "Punks Don't Have Barbecues" Red Zebra
Oldie of the week : "Halfway Home" The Scabs
Last seen movie : After a week with two evenings and a day filled with concerts (Fence, Hard Times Revisited, Mauz, NY Gospel Experience, Starfighter, Camden, Eden, Red Zebra), an evening watching theater in the streets, a funeral, a small get-together around the BBQ (and a Zodiac filled with water for the feet), a birthdayparyt in the family and lots of cleaning in the new apartment ... do you honestly think I had the time to watch a movie ?
Doing this week : Moving the furniture, clothes, cd's and dvd's, food ... all that stuff you collect in your home. Strangely enough I should be grateful it's no longer 30 degrees. There's even a stormfront above me right now. Very dark clouds and lots of heavy rainfall.

It's a shame august is almost halfway. We need more sunshine and less rain, the rate of mountainbiking has been extremely low and I'm going to miss my projector on loan. It's very addictive to be able to watch movies in the true sense of the word "full screen". Or rather "full wall" size ...
Song of the week : "Papa Don't Preach" Kelly Osbourne
Oldie of the week : "Jeremy" Pearl Jam
Last seen movie : "The Way Of The Dragon" is Bruce Lee's first effort in writing and producing his own movie and including more humour than usual in early 1970's Hong Kong movies. Not always quality stuff, but still a notch above some more recent kung-fu movies and it does contain at least two memorable scenes : the nunshaku-fight and the final battle between Bruce and Chuck Norris - at that moment already a seven times karate-champion. The nunshaku-scene was cut due to excessive force but nowdays the fully restored version only seems to be funny. Times do change ...
"Hufters En Hofdames (Bastards & Bridesmaids )" is a charming dutch movie with a twist halfway through. You follow a few days in the life of a simple honest guy with a huge crush on his best girlfriend but she's not interested. Geekish as he is, he does all the wrong things and they become alienated. more or less thanks to the advice of another friend who thinks he's a real Casanova ... Sounds familiar ? Yes, it is, but halfway through the whole concept turns around an suddenly you're following the same story through the eyes of his friends. Giving some scenes more or less meaning and turning parts of the story around. Nice ...
Not wanting to get up sunday-morning we plugged the "Marnie" dvd in and enjoyed a nice Hitchcock-effort starring Sean Connery and Tippi Hedren. Sean - who had just made his first two Bond-movies - behaves just like Bond would. Taking the girl, making her do what he wants ... all in the name of trying to solve her problems. So very sixties, so very sexist. Anyway, lacking real violence and suspense this movie shows how good Hitch was - making an entertaining movie that doesn't seem to long and doesn't bore you - in fact you hope it's going to end only because you what to know what exactly happened ... Do watch out for the horse-scene.
Doing this week : It's Marktrock time again. Featuring some old room-mates (Fence) and a recent room-mate (Mauz). That means I have to leave work early two days in a row in order to get back in time. Which means I'll have to get up extra early to get to work in order to leave early ... get it ?

Exactly one year ago I wrote another editorial. There was a small reference to the surpriseparty we had for Elischka. In order to avoid this again she threw herself a party last night. Since it was a weekday during the holidays, some friends couldn't make it for various reasons. No pictures too, so don't expect anything special here. You could go here for something more about her birthday.
Song of the week : "Shut Your Mouth" Garbage
Oldie of the week : "Theme From Starsky And Hutch" Lalo Shiffrin
Last seen movie : After seeing Josh Hartnett in "Pearl Harbor" I thought there was no hope for him. He seemed pale in comparison to the other actors. In "40 Days And 40 Nights" he sets the record straight with a very amusing role in a very funny movie. The premise of this movie sounds weird and/or sexually over the top, but it never is. There are enough tongue-in-cheeck moments to soften the blow (pun intended). I'm sure men and women will feel different about this movie, as with all gender-related stories, but I for one could - on a certain level - relate to Josh's character and some situations. That's probably the good thing about this movie. Almost anyone can relate to at least some scenes. Hopefully more than to some scenes in "American Pie".
The other movie I saw was "Nobody's Fool". I remembered seeing parts of it long ago so I decided to stay up a little late and give this one a go. Paul Newman can't be really bad, can he ? He plays an old age slacker who's trying to set some wrongs of the past straight by seeking more attention from his estranged son. Meanwhile he keeps hitting on Melanie Griffith - who's neglected by her husband Bruce Willis - and tries to keep the relation with his infatuated landlady on a friendship-level. A typical actors movie ... no action, lots of dialogue and great actors ... refreshing.
Doing this week : A lot of sleeping I guess.

darkman says sleep tight
