Been reading the entire dvd reviews section of The DVD Times yesterday. An excellent website about old, new and upcoming dvd releases, mainly focused on the european zone 2. Sure, there are comparisons with zone 1 releases, but since it's an english website, zone 2 is the main focus. Which is good since not all humans live in America.
There's a lot of technical information about the releases (both screen- as audiowise) which will pleasure all the owners of widescreen tv's and/or dolbysurround/dts speakerlovers ...
They don't skip the old budget releases, nor the big new, boxsets. Found some great reviews there about my favorite movies which could set me back about 1170 euro (around 1080 US dollars). And I can't do that, can I ? That would be inresponsible of me ...
One minor thing though : too bad it isn't possible to browse on (subtitles) language.

First things first : I know that the correct spelling of dates in english/american is actually : "may 30th, 2001" but since I'm european I'd like to keep things the normal way. Sorry guys, but it just isn't logic to put the day inbetween the month and the year. First the smallest (day), then something bigger (month) and ending with the biggest thing (the year). The way you guys in america write down addresses is just the same : "10 Park Lane" ? What's that all about ? Not the first Park Lane, but the tenth ? Off course not. It's "Park Lane number 10". First the street where you have to be and then the house. What's the use of giving the house first ? No logic there people, no logic, I'm sorry.
So, what's new ? The wedding pictures not up yet ? Sorry, can't get to 'em right now. It'll have to wait until the weekend. At least ... sorry again. Hey, it's just three small pictures ... no harm done.
Well, think I'll go read a book now. Gotta bring 'em back by friday or I'l get the library-police behind me and that doesn't sound like fun when you ask Stephen King about it.

As mentioned last week : last saturday was the wedding of my buddy Patrice. Nice long wedding ceremony. And a fun party. Took some pictures afterwards. Might post them later on. Only downside to the weekend : three of my family-members were hospitalised the same weekend. Two of my little nieces (inflamation of the troath and meningitis), and someone with a serious heart-condition. And no ... none of these things had anything to do with the wedding. It all happened before the party.
And by the way ... I'm a wreck ... (read more below).
Song of the week : "Fake" Yum
Oldie of the week : "Basket Case" Green Day
Last seen movie : "Deep Blue Sea" : laughed myself sick. Dumb ass storyline, routine acting, typical ending. The only good part were the (digital) sharks although they didn't seem that convincing anymore when you saw them grabbing one of the cast and eat them. That just didn't seem like real humans to me. Obvious dummies. And most of the plot-twists could be spotted from a mile away. Nice entertainment for a rainy afternoon when there aren't any good movies lying around in your vcr or dvd collection. But please don't buy it, waste your money on some classics instead ...
Doing this week : Recovering from a stiff neck. Did some headbanging last weekend on the wedding-party and I'm definitely <quote content="Murtaugh Lethal Weapon"> getting to old for this shit </quote>. Think I'd better stick to pogoing if I really can't control myself ... never, no more ... And to think I just got rid of the ear-problem.

Editorial - 23 May 2001

Got up this morning feeling okay. I could hear in stereo again. Two working ears ! Gee whiz and all that. But alas ... a little more than an hour later ... PLOP ... mono again ... So when mentioning to Franky that my ear is still blocked, he produced this think-about-it-one : "That just goes to show that man is an animal that wasn't made to walk around on two legs." And that's the best excuse I've ever heard to stay in bed and not get up.

Got this cool e-mail yesterday. About an upcoming protest against Bush's recent ideas (as if they're his anyway) for solving the american energy crisis. His "fuck-the-environment" plan as I like to call it. Read more here and do your part.

By the way ... thought I'd mention that our leased line went offline yesterdaynight and -morning. So we weren't browsable then.

My ear hurts. It's completely blocked. Shut tight. Think I'll get me another dose of my medicine. Those big white wonder pills against headaches and stuff ...
Song of the week : "Weapon Of Choice" Fatboy Slim
Oldie of the week : "Never Enough" The Cure
Last seen movie : a double feature this time : new and old ...
New : "Men Of Honor" : Robert De Niro and Cuba Gooding, Jr. acting like crazy. Breathing under water for more than 4 or 5 minutes, getting run over by a Russian submarine, American b*llsh*t heroic patriotism ... this movie has it all.
Old : "The Maltese Falcon" : less than two hours after getting out of the movie theatre I saw this classic on tv. It's the second adaption from Dashiell Hammett's book, but the best one. Director John Huston's first movie and Humphrey Bogart's first as the lead actor. In 1942, a year later, Bogart made Casablanca - and therefor history.
Seen on tv yesterday : "Thunderbirds" : thank you VCR for the many moments this past weekend : I've seen all 4 Star Wars movies, an episode of Homicide, a documentary about the glory days of Netscape, an episode of ER, the Disney movie Jungle Book and two episodes of The Thunderbirds : a very spiffy sixties science fiction meets James Bond thingie from the good old BBC about a family of do-gooders with their powerful rockets and machines. And all that packed in the form of a puppetshow. Supermarionation as they called it. Great fun. Get the dvd's now ! Or better yet, give them to me ! Except the first of the two movies that followed : "Thunderbirds are GO" and "Thunderbird 6", since I already have that first movie. Sorry, just couldn't resist it ...
Doing this week : Being very calm, the sickness isn't over yet. Thank God it's only a three day week. The weekend starts on thursday.
Extra special : Next saturday, my buddy Patrice gets married. That's yet another one who gets hitched.

And voila ... a site-update from beyond the realm of the sick. Just a few hours after writing how I was getting sick, it hit me full frontal ... got home, crashed in the sofa and didn't get up until it was time for bed. Thanks to the doc I got the rest of the week off to recuperate. A five day weekend ! Five days of feeling better, doing something ... and then feeling tired again ... major pain in the you-know-where ...

Anywayz ... despite all this, the promised cocktail-party for Duvel's birthday went ahead as planned friday-night. I didn't wanna back out, since I'd been the one who'd been pushing him to have the party. And since it was in my own house, I didn't have to drive to get back home, did I ?

And as almost always ... some pictures ... I've got a great one ...

Remember my sore troath ? It's getting worse. Headache, warm feeling and the obligatory runny nose is quickly approaching. A common cold, fever ? Well, seems that's just like what the Microsoft MSDN site was experiencing last week. Got these great screenshots from an old friend. Thanks again.

Obviously it ain't simple keeping that many pages foolproof online. And computers always seem to have a mind of their own ... at least, that's what many users in these real stories published on Franky's Vendetta.org seem to think. Go check it out. I've posted some stories of my own over there.

Editorial - 14 May 2001

Thank God this page isn't speech-driven (LHSP-shares anyone ?), 'cause I've got a bit of a sore troath. Don't know why. The weather's been very nice lately. Just had 5 or 6 days of 25 degrees Celsius. We don't get that a lot over here. Should start considering getting my skateboard out of the closet and dusting it.
Song of the week : "Resist" Kosheen
Oldie of the week : "Garden" Magnapop
Last seen movie : "The Rainmaker" : typical legal thriller - it oozes John Grisham - but worth the watch thanks to director Francis Ford Coppola and great actors like Matt Damon, Danny Devito, Jon Voight (playing a straight-up big-ass lawyer like only he - or Robert De Niro too perhaps - can), Mickey Rourke (in one of his not so frequent good moments lately), Dean Stockwell (in a hilarious little role as a judge) and Claire "Juliet" Danes.
Seen on tv yesterday : "Popular" : who writes that shit ? Whenever I watch it, it's like I'm watching Beverly Hills 90210 while smoking some big doobie. Extremely disturbed, hence great entertainment.
Doing this week : Cleaning up the house. I promised my girlfriend that last weekend, so I'd better get cracking. And maybe there'll be another cocktail party in the weekend. We'll see about that.

I have just devised a new motto : "Laat ons ons goesting maar doen, 't zal beter werken." Yes, that's dutch. It means : "Let us do our thing, it works better". Why this ? Well, Franky has been struggling on the phone with a swedish firm in order to get our online timesheet program working again. It only started working again when he deleted the damn thing and reinstalled it. Back in no time. Now let's see how long this method of action works ... how long we can keep doing this before we fall flat on our faces. All bets accepted ...

Editorial - 3 May 2001

Updated the out section with pictures from my seatrip. Nothing fancy, still cool. Just like the weather actually. Btw, for all you non-dutch-speaking people coming 'round here : that part of the site is in dutch. No english provided, sorry. But the pictures are viewable in any language.

Halfway through spring, summer approaching. 25 degrees tomorrow, rain the day after. Ain't that funny ? Anywayz, been to the seaside last extended weekend. Shot some pics, will be uploading 'em later. Haven't found the time yet to webedize 'em. (webedize = convert to format to use on the web)
